Apoorva Center

Apoorva Center for Autism is an educational and rehabilitation center started in 1996 by SAI with the support of the Lions Club of Sarakki. It is currently located at the premises of Lions Club of Sarakki at J.P.Nagar 2nd Phase, Bangalore. The center is headed by Ms.M K Nithya Lakshmi, a qualified Special Educator with 8 years of experience in the field. Presently the centre has 44 students trained by a dedicated team of professionals and care-givers. The center also provides practical training to Teacher-trainees of the Special Education program in Autism, conducted by KPAMRC, Bangalore.

  • Early Intervention Program(EIP): Presently the centre is conducting EIP for children with autism between 3 and 6 years on a 1:1 and 1:3 basis.
  • Communication Development Program: Caters to the individual communicative needs of the child. As more than 50% of those affected by autism are non-verbal and have difficulties in communication, the centre provides training by means of other augmentative form of communication such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).
  • Sensory Integration Therapy: This aims at integrating all the senses of the child to function harmoniously.
  • Support at Regular Schools: To support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder who are enrolled in regular schools.
  • Play Therapy: This is to inculcate playfulness in the child with autism and thereby increasing the sociability in the child.
  • Social Skill Development Program: Helps to integrate these children with the society across all social settings.
  • Pre-vocational Training: ts goal is to prepare the individuals with autism for vocational training in the area of their interest and capability.
  • Community Awareness Campaign: Aims to create awareness of Autism through lectures, workshops, campaigns, greeting cards and other products made by the students of the centre.
